Josiah “Si” Bunting of The Plains served as master of ceremonies for the annual Memorial Day program at the World War II Memorial in Washington, located halfway between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.

Bunting, a decorated Vietnam veteran, Rhodes Scholar and past president of both VMI and Hampden-Sydney, is chairman of the Friends of the World War II Memorial.

Bunting said this year’s ceremony featured speaker was Ohio Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and included a dozen World War II veterans. “The memorial,” he added, “is a place of raw happiness because people think about unity and what the country once was. It’s a beautiful and inspirational place to be.”

David Roux

Barb Roux has a stable filled with world-class show jumpers and is president of the upcoming Upperville Colt & Horse Show set for Monday, June 3, through Sunday, June 9, at the show grounds in Upperville.

But what about her husband, David Roux, with a far lower local profile as the owner, with his wife, of St. Bride’s Farm.

David Roux is a highly successful technology investor and founder of Silver Lake Partners, the world’s largest technology private equity firm.

His career as an entrepreneur, corporate executive and financier helped usher in the digital age, and he’s an active philanthropist, local and national.

And, oh yes, in 2002, the Maine native also was a founding investor in Boston Basketball Partners LLC, the group that purchased the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association. As a New Englander, he definitely favors Celtics green.

The Rouxs will be front and center in the 1853 Tent to watch this year’s final event on Sunday, June 9th, the $208,200 Upperville Jumper Classic CSI4* sponsored by Lugano Diamonds. Details at: https://upperville.com
